Basics
- In arch based never do `pacman -Sy`. always do `pacman -S` or `pacman -Sy` bcz if repos are partially updated then it will break things
- list all packages with sizes sorted with size too
`pacman -Qi | awk '/^Name/{name=$3}/^Installed Size/{size=$4; unit=$5; if(unit=="MiB") size*=1024; print name, size, unit}' | sort -k2,2nr | awk '{size=$2; unit=$3; if(size>=1048576) {printf "%-30s %.2f GiB\n", $1, size/1048576} else if(size>=1024) {printf "%-30s %.2f MiB\n", $1, size/1024} else {printf "%-30s %d KiB\n", $1, size}}'
`
mentioning packages with size with no sorting
`pacman -Qi | awk '/^Name/{name=$3}/^Installed Size/{size=$4 " " $5; print name, size}'`
- list orphan package
`pacman -Qdt`
to remove them run
`pacman -Rns $(pacman -Qdtq)`

- delete indexed database for start menu in kde
kde uses baloo for indexing files and deleted files may still be there bcz database may not have updated so need to manulally remove them.
1. Disable Baloo File Indexer: First, you need to stop the Baloo service to prevent it from indexing while you're cleaning its database. You can do this by running the following command in the terminal:
`balooctl suspend`
2. Delete the Index Database: Next, you'll want to delete the existing index database. This can be done by removing the Baloo database files located in your ~/.local/share/baloo directory. Use the command:
`rm -r ~/.local/share/baloo`
3. Enable Baloo File Indexer: After deleting the database, you should enable the Baloo service again to start a fresh indexing process. Use the command:
`balooctl resume`
4. Reindex Files: Finally, you may want to force the start of the reindexing process. You can do that with:
`balooctl check`
- to downgrade python version
Download desired version from
`https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/p/python`
then install pkg.tar.zst with
`sudo pacman -U python-3.11.3-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst`
also use this to fix some errors
`yay -Sy $(pacman -Qq | grep python)` this will upgrade all python related
- remove icon cache
```bash
rm -rf ~/.cache/icon-cache.kcache
rm -rf ~/.cache/plasma_icons*
```

Issues
- webview glitch
kde_webview_glitch.mp4 https://small.fileditchstuff.me/s4/EQfnXtDfhjMaeqyHPtfB.mp4
- Sleep mode not working
Run this command to check status
`systemctl status systemd-suspend.service`
and then enable it
`systemctl enable systemd-suspend.service`
- In onlyoffice there might be a problem that ui is so large so fix it use
`/usr/bin/onlyoffice-desktopeditors --force-scale=1.3`
Ref: https://www.reddit.com/r/OnlyOffice/comments/ur8ykg/does_version_710215_have_any_way_to_change/
- kdewallet popup removal
`~/.config/kwalletrc` and under `[wallet]` `enabled=false`
or in kwalletmanager go to settings -> Configure wallet
Uncheck "Enable the KDE wallet subsystem" and click OK.
- kde gui glitches
kde glitches recent update.mp4 https://files.catbox.moe/qhnwbq.mp4
solution
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Downgrading_packages
- installing without using `yay -Sy` after few weeks
just update mirrorlist and keyring
https://archlinux.org/packages/core/any/archlinux-keyring/
- sometimes there is mismatch in app id for filename of .desktop at `usr/share/applications` and what kde is trying to look for
its simple really. click on titlebar, more -> special application settings -> down there, there is a "add property" button -> search for desktop file name and click on that, first click on "force temporarily" and set it to "sublime_text_3" (click apply then) and then set it to "remember" (and click apply)
search "desktop file" in add property menu
