- Removing packages
```
pamac --version
pamac --help, -h [action]
pamac search [options] <package(s)>
pamac list [options] <package(s)>
pamac info [options] <package(s)>
pamac install [options] <package(s)>
pamac remove [options] [package(s)]
pamac checkupdates [options]
pamac update,upgrade [options]
pamac clone [options] <package(s)>
pamac build [options] [package(s)]
pamac clean [options]
```
`yay -Sc` : for clearing cache
```
List orphaned packages: `pamac list -o`
```
Remove orphaned packages: `pamac remove -o`
Another thing to do is clean up extra copies of packages you don't need:
`pamac clean`
I have pamac set up to keep the last 3 versions of each package, so this will only remove excess packages while maintaining a couple of versions back in case I need to downgrade. I like using this method instead as it will handle flatpacks as well as native packages.
Here's an example:
```
[Bester-PN50 ~]# pamac list -o
lib32-fluidsynth 2.1.7-1 multilib 476.6 kB
libgnome-games-support 1.8.0-1 extra 186.8 kB
[Bester-PN50 ~]# pamac remove -o
- Vscodium
https://www.linuxcapable.com/how-to-install-vscodium-on-manjaro-linux/
- vpns installation
`yay -S protonvpn-gui`
- Symbolic links
https://linuxhint.com/create-symbolic-links-manjaro/
`ln -s [path-of-target-file] [path-of-symlink-file]`
`ln -s linuxhint.txt symfile.txt`
**For verification of symbolic link**
`ls -l sym_dir`
**For full path sym links**
You can turn relative paths into full paths using readlink -f foo. So you would do something like:
`ln -s $(readlink -f $origlink) $newlink`
- Building and installing packages from arch repos
[https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Arch\_User\_Repository](https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Arch_User_Repository)
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Makepkg
By default build tools are not available so install them using
`sudo pacman -S base-devel`
It will install these packages
```
autoconf-2.71-4 automake-1.16.5-2 bison-3.8.2-6 debugedit-5.0-5 flex-2.6.4-5 gc-8.2.4-1 guile-3.0.9-1 m4-1.4.19-3 make-4.4.1-2 patch-2.7.6-10 pkgconf-1.8.1-1 base-devel-1-2
```
To build a package, one must first create a PKGBUILD, or build script, as described in Creating packages. Existing scripts are available from the Arch build system (ABS) tree or the AUR. Once in possession of a PKGBUILD, change to the directory where it is saved and run the following command to build the package:
`makepkg`
- strawberry
[strawberry-qt5-1.0.20-1-x86\_64.pkg.tar.zst](../../_resources/strawberry-qt5-1.0.20-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst)
- nordvpn
Use this command
`pamac install nordvpn-bin`
:: In order to enable nordvpn you have to start the following service:
`sudo systemctl enable --now nordvpnd`
:: You have to add yourself to the nordvpn group:
`sudo gpasswd -a USERNAME nordvpn`
:: You then have to restart for the group to be created:
`reboot`
- offline installation
from tar zst file do this
`sudo pacman -U ./app-name.tar.zst`
`sudo pacman -Sw stacer`
`pamac install -w stacer` : not for AUR
[stacer-1.1.0-1-x86\_64.pkg.tar.zst](../../_resources/stacer-1.1.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst)
- nvm installation
`curl -o- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/nvm-sh/nvm/v0.39.1/install.sh | bash`
`nvm ls-remote` : for getting list of available versions which can be downloaded
`nvm list` : for getting list of downloaded versions of node
`nvm install 14.0.0` : for downloading and installing version 14.0.0
`nvm use 14.0.0` : switching to version 14.0.0
`nvm use system`: switching to version when nodejs first installed
- Checking for missing dependencies
You can check if you have missing files from installed packages, e.g.:
$ `pacman -Qk qemu-system-x86`
qemu-system-x86: 13 total files, 0 missing files
- cloudflare-warp installation
install aur package ie cloudflare-warp-bin then use
`warp-cli`
if facing error ie daemon not running then use this command:
`sudo systemctl enable --now warp-svc.service`
Then
https://blog.cloudflare.com/announcing-warp-for-linux-and-proxy-mode/
```bash
~$ warp-cli register
Success
~$ warp-cli connect
```
- Issues in cd
If it says cd has too many arguments then wrap them in double quotes
`cd "$PATH"`
- Forcing installation no matter if dependency breaks
Use `--nodeps` flag with `pacman -S package_name`
- history expansion issue
When entering command it may be possible that some characters are there that needs to be escaped to avoid undesired results
one such is `!` which is for history expansion. so make sure to escape it with `\!`.
