Extras - For capturing streaming media : video downloadhelper extension https://www.downloadhelper.net/   - Joplin introduction : https://sdrive.app/s/c1inpfn6wle3aaczag6vtjud   - Reason for low battery life in linux When a computer is sold with Windows installed, it has ACPI and chipset drivers that can manage the CPU power and overall power consumption. These generally do not exist for Linux, so when the CPU is idle, it is still running the CPU clock at full speed. Similarly, there may be a temperature controlled fan that is dependent on some driver that Linux does not have, so the fan runs at full speed continuously. Some computers are supported by Linux and will not exhibit this behavior, but by no means is that true in all cases. I am guessing you have one that is not fully supported by Linux for power management. It may just be a matter of finding the right drivers and installing them. Or the driver may not be available for Linux at all. Things are quite a bit better than when I started out with Linux in 1992, but by no means are manufacturers making Linux drivers available for all the hardware out there. Some do, and if you are primarily interested in Linux on a notebook computer, you need to search out manufacturers that either offer Linux as an option or offer the ability to obtain hardware specific Linux drivers.   - vscode python automcompletion issue Sometime pylance extension that is installed with microsoft python extension can cause error and disable autocomplete so disable it if u want to use autocomplete feature   - Optimized chromium for linux Thorium   - Best torrent client for linux qbitTorrent fragment for gnome transmissions for no gui/ssh   - Docker Use the following cpmmand to start docker service `sudo systemctl start docker.service` This to enable it for permanent startup when booted `sudo systemctl enable docker.service`   - quickgui https://docs.flutter.dev/release/archive?tab=linux : binaries https://github.com/quickemu-project/quickgui#install - Using it https://nonvalet.com/posts/20220610_quickemu/ To start the VM: `cd ~/VMs` `quickemu --vm debian-10.0.0-xfce.conf --display spice` https://forums.opensuse.org/t/using-qemu-as-you-use-virtualbox/151738 - Open source projects 1. Pinephone : open source hardware 2. https://github.com/makeplane/plane : Open Source JIRA, Linear and Height Alternative. Plane helps you track your issues, epics, and product roadmaps in the simplest way possible. 3. GitHub - notable/notable: markdown note taking app similar to oplin with no mobile client - Creating a limit of RAM for certain application `node --max-old-space-size=2048 yourScript.js` - Manjaro mess https://manjarno.pages.dev/ - Compressions When comparing the various compressions, generally the tradeoff is time vs. size. gzip tends to compress and decompress relatively quickly while yielding a good compression ratio. bzip2 is somewhat slower than gzip both in compression and decompression time, but yields even greater compression ratios. LZMA has the longest compression time but yields the best ratios while also having a decompression rate outperforming that of bzip2. - Incognito mode in terminal before you leave, type `unset HISTFILE` - Hyperbola : arch based distro which is based on linux-libre kernel which is not supported in all machines. It is point based rather then rolling release - imagemagick : to have image manipulation. one truck is to convert to pdf from images `convert *.png -auto-orient pictures.pdf` also for compressing `convert input.png -define jpeg:extent=200KB output.jpg` for black png to gray png `convert icon.png +level-colors "rgb(102,102,102)" -transparent white result.png` - pipewire may be better than pulseaudio - change lock screen wallpaper https://forum.manjaro.org/t/howto-change-the-lock-screen-wallpaper-in-manjaro-xfce/112400 Open the `LightDM Gtk+ Greeter: Settings` App from the apps menu - Better start menu `pacman -S xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin` and in shortcut window found in Keyboard option in set tings manager add this command `xfce4-popup-whiskermenu` ![a1e2e4ee308188a160d944eae7fb07b7.png](../../_resources/a1e2e4ee308188a160d944eae7fb07b7.png) - GPU and i/o usage at xfce panel 1. First download these third party plugins ie `radeontop` for amd gpu, `nvidia-smi` for NVIDIA GPUs and `iotop` for disk usage. 2. Make sure that `xfce4-genmon-plugin` is installed. if it isnt then install it. 3. Now in xfce panel , right click -> panel->add new items->generic monitor. 4. After adding right click on this new item and add command for displaying the output. Command is `radeontop -d - -l 1 | grep -Po "(?<=gpu )([0-9]*\.\d\d\%)"` `(?<=)` this will exclude the gpu part 5. But this command directly wont work. so write a script in .sh file and include its path in command section. ```bash #!/bin/bash gpu_percent=$(radeontop -d - -l 1 | grep -Po "(?<=gpu )([0-9]*\.\d\d\%)") echo " $gpu_percent" ``` - Network usage of individual process install `nethogs` and `sudo nethogs` . It is a cli tool - Check firmware age `hostnamectl` - To optimize battery use `tlp` https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/CPU_frequency_scaling#Scaling_governors `sudo cpupower frequency-set -g powersave` also to disable usb auto suspend go to `micro /etc/tlp.conf` and change `USB_AUTOSUSPEND` to 0 and `remote_pm_on_bat` to on instead of auto and finally do `sudo tlp start` - To get information about video product use `ffprobe
