Fragmentation
- Answering to your question. Fragmentation occurs because sometimes when you allocate something in memory it doesn't occupy contigous memory cells, to understand it you could imagine a train with wagons. The information that you are putting in this train is getting in the wagons but not in a row, not in a contigous way. Now, since you have to manage memory using partitions you could find yourself with a single process scattered in different memory cells that are being partition edfor that process not leaving enough space for new processes. When you take the old process out of the memory, it doesn't automatically free the space it occupied (in some systems) and this causes fragmentation and memory leaks.
