    I personally hate this. Why should my ID be on 150 services, each with their own servers and security levels?

    It's not safe. There are other ways to verify contact details, I don't want to upload my ID to every service.

    I would promptly leave if I'm asked to do this.

    It's not private, it's not secure, it's not needed.

    Most of the spam messages come from @gmail and @onmicrosoft domains so let's not kid ourselves that this will help in any meaningful way in combating spam.  

    As someone who works for an MSP that has several governmental clients, I can assure you with confidence that those registrars cut corners somewhere, and that PII is stored in some form. Logs, “anonymized” analytics, backups, replication DR, etc.

    This is a problem I complain constantly about, but my clients always shut me down for being “overly paranoid.”

    The best way to prevent data leaks is to have never had the data in the first place.

  So by giving phone numbes they can cross check details with leaked aadhar card details and get our address and biometric details too
